Schools have so many days off... What do working parents do?

Anonymous
OP: We are two full-time working parents and both of our kids are going through a private preschool (not daycare). It's been hard, but worth it for us. From our experience, the foundation they're getting at the school is better than what we saw being offered at daycares we toured. Also, our oldest started at a daycare (highly regarded) before we moved him to the school and the difference was night and day. They are thriving at the school. Their focus is on teaching, enrichment and holistic learning for each child, not just watching them/keeping them safe until you get off work and come pick them up. I'm sure there are some daycares out there that do more and that's great, but I personally didn't see any that compared and I toured many.

We make it work by switching off who takes days when school is closed. Sometimes work is busier for one of us at a certain time and the other one compensates. We also only take vacations when school is closed -- and in the summer there are tons of camps that will take you through at least half of August.

Would it be easier if we had a nanny or family living here? Of course! But we don't, and just know that if you think the school is the best for your kid then you can make it work with some effort.
