As someone else posted, UVA tuition is $40K per year in 2019-2020 for engineering. High stats kids can get merit aid OOS. UVA gives very little to no merit aid.

For in-state??????

FAKE NEWS!!!
If only there was a way to check to see what the annual tuition is at UVA. Hmmmmmm ....

UVA TUITION IS $18,870 for first year engineering.

Rat
You forgot to add the $3,000 in fees and the $22,00 for room and board.

Ok, let’s compare total cost of UVA attendance against OOS colleges tuition only. This is a mindless game.

Why? COL is also coming out of my pocket. No reason not to compare all-in costs.

Yes that’s the “mindless game” point.
The real point was a pp was repeating what another pp said, stating as fact and then drawing out the s when she falsely stated that UVA engineering tuition is $40k. It’s not.

Miami University. The original Public Ivy.

No, that would be William and Mary, which is much older.

So much mis-information. Here are the in-state and out of state costs for 2081-2019 tuition, fees, room and board for engineering (does not include transportation, books and personal):

UVA: 35,354 and 61,920
VT: 24,554 and 42,842
UMD: 25,983 and 49,020
Pitt: 32,258 and 47,168
Purdue: 22,072 and 40,874
GA Tech: 24,308 and 44,904

Why is everyone freaking out? Comparing by tuition is a dishonest game, that’s not what you’ll pay. Tuition AND FEES are re-set yearly.

PP’s link has the cost of attendance for UVA 2019-2020 per school at UVA. You don’t just pay the tuition.

UMD all-in (regardless of college it seems) = $27,318

UVA all-in (engineering) = $39,772

Your UVA numbers are wrong:

First year engineering UVA: $39,772
Second year engineering UVA: $38,772
Third and Fourth year engineering: $37,742

because PP quoted outdated rates for UVA. The 2019-2020 numbers are out.

But kids do get substantial merit aid. So lets just drop this.

Virginia School Boosters:

Yeah, we hear ya. Your schools are good. Other schools have things to offer, too.

And UVA's engineering school is SO EXPENSIVE in-state that your $$ argument has no merit.

$2800 per semester is not that big of difference for UMD. Still a value.

I think PP's comment on Miami U was a joke.

Cost of attendance. So Not tuition. But yes, it is seriously expensive.

(and not all of our kids from NOVA get in - mine landed at an OOS flagship ranked higher in engineering and even without merit it would have been comparable.)

Oops, meant, $2800 PER YEAR.

Everyone: OP wants to know about GOOD OUTCOMES and GOOD IMPRESSIONS at OOS Flagships.

Let's keep it positive.

There are many good schools throughout the US that are not the local ones.
