Nope. You always, always call animal control when a dog bites so there is a record and paper trail on that dog. That way, if/when they bite again, proper steps can be taken to put them down. |
Yes, that is what we do with our dog now. He is put away, and only interacts with us. Because he is elderly and impaired, we will do what we need to do to care for him, and we do love him, but we are mindful about people all the time. |
| I have a small breed aggressive lover, he will cover anyone with licks. I always warn people of this so they don't put their face close, but some people just don't listen. A woman came right up to him on a Bethesda sidewalk and even when I told her not to put her face close, she picked him up and held him into her face where of course he licked her mouth. She freaked out that she 'felt his teeth' (there was nothing remotely close to him biting her) and insisted that I provide his vaccination records and said she was trying to decide whether to report him. She picked up my dog! I felt like I should have reported her, but luckily it all got dropped after she saw his record. |
And this is exactly why I do not allow strangers to get close to my dog. I do not care what they think of me. Keep your hands to yourself. |
Sounds like the woman who picked up your dog has some mental issues. |
I think she must have had must have had mental issues. It was a terrifying week though worrying about whether my dog would be taken or euthanized. My whole family would have been devastated. |
|
Yes. An adult family member who thought she knows my dog better than I do.
All that was said was " I guess I should have left her alone." I didn't respond. |
+1 |
Nope. Especially if the dog is not at fault. |
It's not, actually. And if you know anything about dogs, AC responses, legality, etc., you would know it's not. |
| Nope. Two yorkies. Another dog not on a leash attacked my female and bit her. The other dog had a history of not being on a leash roaming the neighborhood. When I tried to get my dog, the dog snapped at me. I called animal control and they were fined $300 since the dog came at me. |

It sounds to me like the OP's son was not very badly hurt. Under those circumstances, under DC law at least, the dog wouldn't be labeled a potentially dangerous dog. A nip or scratch isn't enough to qualify.
My advice is to get the name of the owner's homeowner's insurer and deal with them Who cares about an apology. |
Always report bites. |
All dogs are wonderful when properly raised, trained, and socialized. |
|
I have a mutt that has never bitten anyone.
I would be mortified if she did. I would offer to pay for medical expenses, and discuss next steps with vet. Have dog put on dangerous dog list/ |
