Thanks to PARCC testing and GreatSchools rankings, we are living through a particular moment where test scores = home prices. But it hasn’t always been that way and won’t be that way in the future. PARCC is going away. Even GreatSchools is now trying hard not to give schools high scores basically just for being rich. In sum, counties don’t care as much about high test scorers as you think. They aren’t desperately trying to recruit new residents — they have too many already. This is a “problem” only for the very wealthy homeowners who fear that other rich prejudiced people won’t want to buy here anymore. Oh well. |
I am not denying it at all. but location location location. |

The only schools in MCPS that are majority or close to majority Asian are schools that feed into the blocked clusters. If you wanted to reduce Asian participation in the program then blocking the schools that have close to a majority of Asian students is a good way to do it. Don't forget that MCPS has historical data on the race and geographical location of all previous applicants, admits and attendees which for the blocked schools has been overwhelming Asian as the other races don't seem to want to come east. So again- if you wanted to reduce Asian participation to racially model an incoming group more to your liking then blocking those schools would be the way to do it. And what do you know ---it did! Asian admits went down.
Its a shame and Asian American students do a lot for MCPS. I'm sure you'll regret losing them when they are gone but then it will be too late. |
| Well, the richest and most influential areas of Bethesda, CC and Potomac, their kids go to magnets in Silver-spring, Takoma Park. So these influential and rich people are in local govt, MCPS, even MCCPTA. They pour in the resources in SS and TP, while secretly hating these areas in downcounty. Upcounty is more isolated and less political. Also gets less resources. Down county is more Blacks, Bethesda is more White, upcounty is more Hispanic and Asians - competitively. Asians and Hispanics are not politically active or astute, like Blacks and Whites, so in the end they suffer. |
Does anyone else wonder if the person claiming all of the Asian Americans are going to abandon MCPS is the same one promising a lawsuit for months. Neither of those things have happened, or are going to happen. I live in a part of Silver Spring with plenty of Asian American families, and they don't seem to have been hurt at all by changes to the CES and magnet middle school admission process. Which is the same phenomenon that would end any lawsuit before it began - you can't claim disproportionate impact if more members of a certain group are helped rather than hurt by that policy. |
| Basically MCPS is doing affirmative action and Asians think that if they get 100 top test scores and there are 100 slots in some program then the top 100 people, all Asian, should get those slots. Tough. |
I agree partially with you but whites did perfectly fine, even went up in admissions/enrollment. Most affirmative action policies don't protect and favor the whites and some minorities over another minority group. |
If you want to get technical, whites are a minority in MoCo. I do agree with you though. |
Don't let the door hits you on your way out. |
Seriously...that PP is way overstating things. Things were fine before they immigrated and will be fine when they all leave. Of course they wouldn’t all leave. “Asians” aren’t a uniform block. |
