Please explain why having fewer white people is a bad thing?

Actually losing the asian americans rather than whites from Montgomery County will tank them. MCPS is hostile to asian americans even though as a whole they deliver the highest test scores in the county. The recent racial modeling changes to the magnets that changed entrance from being the top performers to using geography letting MCPS drop asian participation by 8% is not sitting well with many asian american communities. If it look closely at the PARCC scores over the past several years, asian americans have stayed high, whites have dropped and minorities have really dropped. The curriculum that has been in place for the last seven years has really damaged the school system and the kids who have been in it since the beginning will be entering high school next year. Scores will continue dropping and if asian americans leave at a higher rate than has been happening it will tank.
Wealthy whites are attracted by high test scores so if the asian americans leave, the wealthy whites will follow. Add in bussing and letting the DCC cannibalize the W schools and its game over. |
| I really don't think anyone I know would care if asians left and took white people with them. What would the net effect be? Fewer bad drivers and less traffic? Ok. Where's the downside? |
| I’d be fine if we lost white fat communists from Takoma Park |
Pffffft, but who'd be left? |
There is no “PG Takoma Park” hasn’t been for many years. |
God these people are unbearable. |
Yep. |
So everyone you know would be happy if Montgomery county were populated exclusively by blacks and Latinos? Everyone you know would be happy if there were no whites or Asians living in the county? Huh. That sounds more than a little racist. |
Asians are attracted to high test scores. Wealthy whites are attracted to other wealthy people (especially white). |
That's great, but do you plan to respond to PP's substantive point, with which I agree. No I would not move countries which would necessitate a new job, customs, language, visa, friends, etc. But I could move from Bethesda to VA (about a 10 minute drive) without changing any of that. My kids aren't even school age so we wouldn't even have to change that. There is simply no comparison between the barriers to the two different types of moves. |
Once more - there are more Asian Americans living OUTSIDE Potomac and Bethesda (the areas most impacted by the cohort criteria) than there are Asian Americans living in those places. Unless you think wealthy Asians are the only Asians that test well or care about school? |
