Is it normal to have no acknowledgement of emails in Public Schools

Anonymous
Another NP frustrated with FCPS. Enrolled our DC and submitted all forms required. Received a call from Registrar on school day saying the health forms had not been received so the child was going to be sent back home. While on the phone with her, sent her the emails again wit the forms which had been sent to her and copied (luckily) to the class teacher. She sees the forms and then says the physical checkup was one over a year back and the child will be sent back home and still cannot attend school - the form clearly showed the last checkup date as Sept mid of last year.
On the phone call instead of trying to understand / talk or give the parent some time to take care of the situation (which in this case was luckily not needed) she told us 3 times our child needs to be sent back home.

Depends on the principal. Some are fantastic and some don’t respond.

OP, just out of curiosity, what made you decide to pull your kids after one day?

Thank you. We are very glad we left. Clearly an environment where there are no basic courtesies and acknowledgements or respect for individuals, is not the one we want our children to be in. When our children left the private to join this public school, their teachers friends wished them the best, wrote notes. The school principal wished them the best in an email (hey the school was losing money right - well, he still did). And those are qualities we want to see later on in life in our kids - not just rating of 8-9 in schools where only SOL scores matter.

At least you gave it a chance.

Anyways - thank you everyone for your snarky comments. FCPS schools rock !!!! We hope that keeps you happy

We're you expecting them to beg you to keep your kids enrolled?!

That private school administration is earning every bit of then$40k you're paying them.

Her kids picked out special pink pencils. They didn't realize that all school supplies are communal in public schools now.

This isn't true. My kid keeps the supplies I bought

OP here. Once again thank you for the nasty comments. Our kids had been in private but due to my wife losing her job we had decided to move them to public. The private school they were in granted us financial assistance so we chose to move them back and sent an email to the public school principal/administrator explaining them the situation, thanking them for helping with enrolling our kids and wishing them the best for the coming school year. All we expected (which I realize now we should not) was a simple thanks for letting us know. Both our kids supplies were in their individual desk - they are in higher grades . To the PP who commented if we were expecting them to beg us to come back, your nastiness shines through. Like I have said earlier a couple of times, it has been a learning experience - the one at the school and likewise now the one with the nasty kind of comments that have been posted here

This is not an explanation about why you decided to bail on public school on day 1.

I hope your children continue to have a fabulous time in private school.

1. Email sent to Principal/Registrar about withdrawing one child from Public school to move him to private - no reply/response - nothing. Not a word !!! They have deleted the student accounts etc. though so we know they have received our email.
2. Email sent to class teacher about collecting the school supplies from the class - not a word back from the teacher again
? Are you in Loudoun County? If you are in FCPS this post makes no sense! Classes started the day you posted and you are already pulling your kids? If you are in Loudoun County(the only other county that has started last week. Maybe you should say that and name school or area to get a better response from DCUM.

Actually it is an explanation why you decided to bail on public school on day 1. It's very difficult to leave private school. Good luck!

I honestly wonder how you make it in the real world. You are an example of a snowflake all grown up. Goodness.

I agree that private schools are probably best for you and your family.

If it's that important, then go to the school office and ask to speak with someone. It's the first week of school!

OP, This was the first day of school? Do you have any idea of what goes on the first day? Kids showing up without being registered; parents unhappy that Johnny is in Larla's class and wants Larla moved out NOW--or worse, demands that Johnny be moved out because Larla's best friend is in the class. The administration is also likely in the cafeteria helping with kids who do not know how to go through the lunch line. Not only that, the principal is likely on the phone with cluster director begging for another slot so that the classes are not so big. And, then there is the phone call from mom whose child did not get off the bus or the teacher who just told her that she has decided to retire next month. Oh, yes, and the Kiss and Ride line with ten kids still standing there long after school is out. So, the administrator needs to find those parents--one of whom was the mom who is mad because her child did not get off the bus--even though she had indicated that she was picking her up.

So, OP, enjoy your private school with your nice handwritten notes.
