And FCHS has a tennis team

And they both suck. FCHS tennis team got bagel by both Marshalls and TJ TWICE. Very unfortunate that Stuart and FCHS are in the same division as TJ and they both serve as doormat for TJ and Marshalls

Please stop saying Marshalls. That is the department store, not the school.

Also, Stuart won its district in boys tennis several times when the Shane brothers were playing. They both ended up at, you guessed it, UVA.

To be fair Marshall is the Marshalls FCPS

OP, it will be easier to get into colleges coming from Wakefield, than some of the other schools and areas mentioned here.

It will also be easier to make the varsity or be a leader in another activity at a Wakefield than some of the other schools. It just depends on what you’re looking for.

Doubt it, as the culture there doesn’t position the kids to be equally strong candidates for admission.

Not varsity basketball, LOL.

If you want to compete against inferior competition, yes Wakefield is the place to go. Your kids can make the team but then get destroyed in actual competition

The Shane brothers were good and they probably won the district titles but I don't think Stuart has ever won the tennis state championship.

We were a South Arlington family (moved out of state this year). Our kids went to Catholic School for elementary school but we chose Wakefield for High School. The teachers were absolutely fabulous. Our child had so many great opportunities and the staff offered support at every turn.

** Arlington and Alexandria City colocate most of their rec facilities with schools due to lack of space. It's one of the trade offs of living close in. Less land to use for mega recreation centers like in Fairfax

** Alexandria City has virtually no private swim/tennis clubs. Neither does S. Arl for that matter and the ones in N Arl take a long time to get a membership. So the result the interest in swim and tennis doesn't match that of the burbs. Lacrosse is big and for high school Crew at TC.

Then tell us about all the scholars coming out of Wakefield. For example, how many National Merit Semifinalists have there been at Wakefield the past five years? How strong is the Model UN program? What robotics teams or student publications have won national awards? The statistics on college admissions published in Arlington Magazine consistently fail to impress.

Yet they will have graduates that surpass kids from the “good” schools. Hard to accept, but it happens. No guarantees. Going to Yorktown doesn’t necessarily pay off. Often you just end up with an entitled kid with a drinking problem.

You didn’t answer the question. The best graduates generally are not coming out of Wakefield.

Ah, but do they have winning tennis teams?

DP, but the 6A tennis champions last year were McLean (boys) and Oakton (girls), and the 5A champions were TJ (boys) and Marshall (girls).

So it seems the answer is yes.

Those schools excel in academics because a high percentage of Asians. Why is that a surprise to anyone?
