potomac school vs langley/mclean/marshall

Just to be clear the variety of ethnicity has nothing to do with race. I know many people who have FA at Potomac and they fit a broad range of ethnicity.

The Langley and McLean pyramids are fantastic and, as for the intangibles, exposure to a broader range of students and activities (especially in the McLean pyramid) more than compensated for the additional attention that an individual student might receive at Potomac. I don’t expect a Potomac parent to say the additional tens of thousands in tuition spent was a waste, but please know there are many of us who could have easily afforded Potomac or another private and decided to invest more in public education.

I have to respectful disagree. I have kids @both Langley HS and Potomac, only because DD did not get accepted by Potomac. You can attend Langley HS if you live in Langley zone. Potomac is by invitation only. I can envison that my straight A DD from Langley will struggle in college while my other DD @Potomac will do just fine even though she is just an B student at Potomac. Potomac prepares you for college much better than FCPS, IMHO.

I like to compare Potomac to an Audi A8 and FCPS Langley HS to a Honda Accord.

I think the point is that your Potomac DD would end up equally well regardless of whether she attended Potomac or Langley. To use the car analogy, both the Audi and the Honda would get you from point A to point B. Some people can easily afford an Audi but would still buy the Honda.

I think Mclean parents should be mad that all their tax money is being sent to other areas in the spirit of keeping things equal. Why pay high taxes without getting a better product. Some of the facilities in lower income areas are better. The gym at Mclean is an embarrassment. Parents should demand more and it is something to think about when looking into school board and who is your actual voice. In the 80/90s Langley and almost Mclean were as good as any private or at least close. There is no reason any Mclean school should be over populated and trailer filled.
