Why are restrooms gender segregated?

You can't be this stupid. I'm sorry really:

In your own home it is one person at a time.
I know everyone in my house so I am not afraid.

You wish. You are kidding yourself if you think the majority of women want to look at you. I know you probably aren't "serious" but if you were I would say "don't flatter yourself"

You and me both.

Except I'm not demanding the right to use the women's room. I just want to be left alone, in the men's room. Not having some pushy activist woman demanding they have "equal" access.

That's the difference bewteeen us.

I don't want to use the men's restroom. Are you talking about Trans men? Don't worry we have Trans women!

Segregation of the sexes during private activities is not a recent or culturally isolated phenomenon. MOST men and women feel more comfortable with single-sex public bathrooms. This is for many, many reasons; not just fear is safety.

If we want to make them same-sex, we need floor-to-ceiling doors for every stall, and an open air concept. Like just a line of stalls against a wall in a store-- no outer door.

This definitely, that it's unethical for a member of the opposite sex to be present during a private moment such as urinating or undressing.

Whatever. I personally don't care about mixed gender or unisex public restrooms but I am aware that most people do and most people prefer separate gender restrooms and for valid reasons, so I don't make a fuss. It just makes life easier for many people.

Most people don't care about unisex restrooms as long as they're made for one person at a time. But a multi stall unisex restroom where each sex could go in at the same time would be uncomfortable and just weird for most people.

If I have to go, and the stalls are full in the women's restroom, I'll totally go into? the men's restroom. Hell, I look like a guy anyway. More than once I've been confronted by women accusing me of being a guy, so why not oblige them? They always have empty stalls in their restrooms, and they aren't any nastier than some of the women's restrooms I've been in. Also, I've seen plenty of dicks in my time, usually dressed up as women.

Well, I've seen two (my husband's and son's) and prefer to keep it that way. Who says your preferences trump mine?

I'm a feminine looking woman and I too use the men's bathrooms all the time. I'm so sick of waiting at women's bathrooms. It's ridiculous that women's and men's restrooms have same number of stalls. Women's should be 2-3x larger. I vote for unisex. I don't care if men can hear me urinating. Everyone does it...

To make the unisex bathrooms work, they need to build floor to ceiling walls and doors. So, essentially, you're pooping in a private closet.

If they did this, which is what I've seen in many restaurants/clubs/bars, I think both men and women would be comfortable. In addition, the mix of people right outside the door should help ensure that men behave themselves.

It definitely wouldn't work if there are just stalls where someone can peek under/over the stall wall. Too many pervy guys would try to cop a look.

I'm going to bet that womens' bathrooms are always dirtier than the mens' (toilet paper all over the place).

I wouldn't want young girls/teens to have to share bathrooms with grown men.
