Wait and see on a cavity on back molar for a 7 year old?

I would only leave a cavity on a baby tooth that was basically almost ready to fall out, or very shallow and small (as the dentist said above).

I also would suggest going over to the pediatric dentist recommendations on the health site and checking out recent reviews of pediatric dentists. What seems great and "conservative" might well be negligence.

Good luck, OP.

Yeah my dentist said that wouldn’t happen! How old was your child when you discovered the cavity?

Just be careful - our friends waited (due to coronavirus) and ended up with an emergency and having to pull the kids tooth.

It was a molar and we were told the adult tooth underneath can be affected when the decay on the baby tooth is longstanding. We had to get a small filling on the adult tooth as soon as it erupted. IDK if it had an abscess - it wasn't infected or anything, just massively decayed to the point of falling apart. (part of it would fall out, leaving a chunk behind). HTH

My child had just turned 9, forgot to add.
