| Let's not go overboard with painting feds as hard worlers. I was a fed employee for a year and I have never seen such waste and abuse in my life. One guy used to shut his door everyday at 2 -3 and nap until 530 when he left. Another woman was moonlighting as a Long & Foster real estate agent - should would leave to show houses during the day. |
Let's not go overboard with painting all terrible employees as feds. I worked for a consulting firm where a terrible employee was caught sleeping at his desk. When we was called out on it, he went and got a doctor's note that said his workplace should accommodate his "narcolepsy". They actually kept him on my project and he brought a couch into his office for naps. Do you know how maddening it was to see that dude sleeping on a couch in his office with a blanket and a pillow every day? |
And then there are those, like me, who have worked 8:30 am - 7 pm for the last month. Or who answered emails on Thanksgiving becuse of a work emergency. Or who stayed in the office till 1, 2, 3 am in my last job for trial prep (and I am not an attorney). I also worked in private years ago and worked with some complete bums. |
Many of the lower paying positions in the federal government have been automated away or contracted out. In my agency, only SES have secretaries. My GS-15's boss doesn't. As a GS-14 I don't either. |
