+1000 Wondering why PP feels the need to stir the crazy pot. pP, we get it, you don;t like trees. Do what you want in YOUR yard, and be done with it, already. You sound like a head case. |
Do you value oxygen? There is good - no great reason for replenishing trees. You are not very smart. |
| We lived on a street in Kensington in 1990 (+/-) lined with 60 year old beautiful maple trees (guess that age because of age of houses) and there was a tornado that knocked over 75% of them, several into second floor of homes. Luckily - storm came at 5PM and people weren't in their beds (my best friend across street bedroom took a direct hit.) I love trees but I have no problem with removing big ones too close to the home, in fact, once I get the dang $10,000 it will cost us I will be removing 3 massive Silver Maples all within 10 feet of my house. There is a reason there is something called 'street trees': our close by homes aren't set up for 75' trees towering over our houses especially in the increasingly violent storms we're getting. I am happy to plant trees 50 feet away and wish the city/suburbs would plant more big trees where there is the space and less ornamentals but I won't judge being afraid of trees falling on houses |
+1 Or anything but themselves and their crack pot agenda of the week. |
We get it. Everyone has a story. I have had trees fall on my house not once, but twice. I still don't feel the need to go cutting down trees, or try to tell others what to do. I have my own life to worry about. Imagine that. |
+1 Too cheap to buy real trees. Replacing old, healthy trees with saplings does absolutely nothing for anyone. Not all old trees are not healthy - but you can keep up that tunnel vision of yours. Clearly its not working for you, but whatever. |
I am guessing Northern Virginia, close in. That kind of thing happens more than most normal, non-psychotic and non-sociopathic people suspect. |
| We have a 250 year old oak behind the house. It was literally growing when we were still a British colony. I shudder to think that thoughtless little pigs would chop it down because they don't like to rake leaves. |
Proximity to anywhere land is distrubed such as home foundation, utility trenching, septic drainfields, stormwater ponds, even trenching for silt fencing, etc poses risk to tree survival. Ive seen trees die with completely leaving the area directly under the tree canopy undisturbed. Not all trees die. Those with shallow roots are more suspectible. Traditional oaks with deep root structures have done better than most in our projects. Most good builders are very knowledegable about trees so do their best to preserve - per my original post. Some of the newer players in the game dont really give a damn. They couldnt tell the dfference between a hollly and a maple. I have an arborist who assesses health of every tree we want to save. |
