Same old story. Why can't Arizona HQ send a kick ass HOS who plans to stay for several years for a change? Why??
|
| Call Bezanson and ask. He will take your call. |
| I'm going to, thanks for the idea. I've had it with the churn. |
While you're at it, talk to Carolyn McGarvey. She has been 'over' BASIS DC from the beginning (Bezanson is relatively new). |
The phone calls won't stop the churn... |
| Probably not. But you can still try to make them listen to your concerns. |
| Can I ask when this email was sent? I have a sixth grader at Basis and only learnt about this upon opening this thread. |
March 15 at 5:00 pm. Subject line was: A Message From the Head of School |
PP here. Thanks. I did not receive it and neither did my husband. I guess it was sent to some but not all? Strange. |
More likely an issue with the email platform (BASIS parent and marketer who fights email delivery issues daily). Check your spam filter just in case and call the school to make sure you are still on the distribution list. |
I think that is the problem - they keep "sending" folks from the AZ schools who can't handle DC. Why don't they learn from their last 4 repeat mistakes, and hire someone from DC? Or if they are so committed to hiring internally (as they have always done) then just promote one of the better admin from within the school who have been there through all of this. |
They had one who was kick ass and wanted to stay, but they promoted him, then brought him back to their private in the DMA |
How are things going at that private? Are many parents willing to pay for the BASIS model, or will they only put their kids through it if it is free? |
They hit their enrollment target for the current year. I've seen some of their high school students at area debate tournaments and they seem to be both serious about the competition and having fun. The student body is diverse in a way that most DMV privates are not -- a significant percentage of Asian and south Asian students. |

Basis dc parent here. Basis private (basis mclean) is nothing like Basis dc. I happen to be a very happy basis dc parent (coming from a disorganized terrible charter where I was concerned about my child's safety and heard that dcpcs board basically ignores grievances because they are a pro-charter advocacy group).
But, basis dc is not a private school and does not have the resources of basis mclean. friends of mine go to basis mclean and say that it's the best private in the greater dc area. they really are not comparable. I guess you get what you pay for? |
