My elementary school in flyover country in the 70s did a lot of this. It is fine.

DC doesn't have a middle class - they have rich and poor.

I beg to differ. We are raising two kids w/ one wage earner making $90k per year. We are middle class.

$90K/yr in DC is middle class in most cities but lower MC in DC. We're $150 and that's barely MC in this town.

North Star and Citizens of the World look like instant board approvals.

I'm most surprised by the North Star application; didn't Robert Simmons found Ron Brown HS for DCPS? Why wouldn't DCPS build a 4-8th school as well?

I wonder what went wrong at DCPS that he felt a charter would serve his interests more than a public setting; I wonder if there are legal hurdles that a charter might have an easier time with considering the all male requirement? Thoughts?

So many signers on to that application that if it fails a vote, I'd be extremely interested to know why!

Encouraged to reapply next year, some concerns about replicability in our market after site visits. Site visits on existing schools was inconsistent. Strong board built, but how committed are the people?
