Give me a break! The area of the County with the highest income *is* the area around the Nottingham and Discovery neighborhoods. PP- if you are going to use "private is an option" to justify other schools being overcrowded, then the schools that we should pack in the most are the schools in the most wealthy areas-- because those are the parents most likely to be able to afford private as a bail-out. Are the Nottingham parents really this clueless and entitled? Nottingham was no more over-crowded than Glebe or Tuckahoe-- both of which are still going to be overcapacity, even after they shifted a number of kids to McKinley.

I suspect ATS attracts more N. Arl kids because there are more middle class parents up there, the parents may be more willing to make the time and effort to do the school tours required by the application process, and because many people prefer to have their kids attend a closer school. To be fair, I think this is why ATS is centrally located. So that geography is not a barrier.

Faulty logic: It is not 'fair". It's not central; it's in N ARL. It's "centrally" located to great schools and quite far from lower quality schools.
Fair would be to move it to S. arl and make that building a neighborhood school.

If your child could go to a N. arl school and is at ATS, you know that it is not fair.

What do you think would happen to ATS if it were moved south and open only to students in s Arlington?

None, because APS already owned land at Wilson site (e.g. was free) and there was no available site in south Arlington. Buying land would have added tens of millions.

Point taken. But when I read about the ridiculous amount of money the county is pouring into Rosslyn for its "revitalization", and that HB is meant to be the bejeweled centerpiece of all of that... it makes me want to start throwing stuff. I want arlington to have great services and schools. I'm certainly not anti government/ all taxes are bad, but it is unreal to me what they have planned for that area. Meanwhile, they have no solutions for transportation on Columbia Pike, and have canceled bus service to parts of north Arlington. We are hardly ADA compliant with many of our curbs not being handicap accessible. We have a looming high school seat deficit of 3000...but HB is integral to the glorification of Rosslyn.
