Retiring before you have a full work pension

Sounds about right. There is a correlation between early retirement and early death.

Also, many centenarians work well into the 90s. This guy just died at 123 yrs old. Worked until he was 100. Work often keeps yiur mind and body sharp.

So pick a job you love and stick with it. Dont want your time on soul suxking work.

I'm a fed, and just hit the point (age 55, 25 years service time) when if I retire I can start receiving my pension immediately. I love my job and have no intention of retiring, and have other investments, but it sure is a nice feeling to know that regardless of what happens, I have a guaranteed income coming in. As a friend said "You will never be poor."

OP here. Maybe I’m out of touch, what do you mean? I have a pension, but even a half pension is great. I don’t need to milk every last dime out of it.

Pls explain.

I am 38 and no one I know my age has a pension unless they hit the jackpot or were career military. I missed the pension benefit for my company by a year. Pensions mean you will be able to retire. By the time I am of retirement age I will have a measly 401k (which has been acknowledged is not enough) and no social security. So yes you are out of touch or a troll. Be grateful for what you have!

I get what you’re saying..I think. My govt pension will hit 80k a year if I suck it up and work a few more years.

Ok, maybe it’s different in Canada but DH works for a bank and has a pension too.
38%of people in Canada have a work pension.

And pension or not, everyone can retire. Save for it!

Very few people have pensions anymore. I had one, which resulted in employer laying people off in their 50s rather than pay out in retirement. I took the pension buyout but would have worked to retirement had I had the chance.

U.S. needs to prosecute corporations for ageism, big time! Anyone over 50 with a pension gets harassed or laid off.

This. I nearly had to retire early due to a health issue. I did the math and decided to do some radical approaches to treating my condition so I could keep working. I don’t judge people who don’t have a way to keep going, but I don’t understand stopping early because you simply don’t feel like working anymore. You will run out of money and your sister will have to care for you or watch you suffer.

I'm an RN.

That makes sense. Public healthcare system, religious, or private?
