Very true. We liked Adams Morgan, hated Mount Pleasant. Unfortunately, we only rented in the former and bought in the latter.

What's wrong with Mt. P vs. Adams Morgan? It seems super community oriented and more family-friendly than AdMo. Definitely less drunks. And you're only a 15 minute walk from Columbia Road.
We love living in Adams Morgan, but currently DINKs and thinking about a kid in the next 3 to 4 years.

Bad retail, including few interesting restaurants (umpteen places selling papusas and little else)
Bad schools
Too much crime/too many locals with drug/alcohol problems that manifested themselves in vagrancy, harassment and EMT noise
Kids spread among all the area privates and not socializing with each other
Not quite close enough to either CP or CH Metro stations

Thanks for confirming our doubts about Mt. Pleasant. Those are pretty much the things that made us ultimately buy somewhere else.

It is truly horrifying to me that so many people who should be having a good life are moving to places to be miserable "for their kids", or just because their husband wants a big house. Do you want your kids to grow up and and do the same thing! Life is too short! Live where you want to live! There have to be good places with schools that your kids will be happy with that won't make you miserable. So what if it's not the absolute best school in the region. Your kids will be fine. Go now! What are you waiting for! My kids are in a great school, we can walk places, my neighbors are great. And it's not the absolute "best" school we could afford..but my kids are fine and happy and so am I.
