Six year old FCPS student found wandering in Centreville

Once more: How do you ensure that your child not leave the house when YOU go to the bathroom, go to sleep, take the laundry to the basement, take a shower, work in the yard, etc.etc.? Unless you keep your child by your hip 24/7 when he is not in school or an activity, just how do you ensure that?

Presumably people tell their kid how to behave appropriately and the kid does so. For kids who have developmental or behavioral issues that prevent that, they use alarms, etc. Given that this child was in a mainstreamed classroom with no special accommodations the rest of the year, there's no reason to think the child would have needed that. However, given that the parents are all over TV blasting the teachers, they obviously are not the kind of people to take responsibility, and therefore likely have not instilled that on their kids, either. Parents who think the world revolves around them tend to have kids who think the world revolves around them.

The child knew what he was doing. The parents are embarrassed. So, what does one do? Blame the school.

He is 6 years old. He is not old enough to be out on his own. End of story.

Which McLean school?

Who is arguing he is old enough to be out on his own? He wasn't sent out to walk home alone. He decided to leave, found an opportunity, and left. Unless the kids are never allowed to go outside, it could happen anywhere.

And, we have a winner!
