How does this work - i am new to this AAP for my elder one. Does NNAT 133 itself not get the kid in pool, was the kid in pool and not accepted due to COGAT/GBRS and hence had to appeal. Also did you do parent referral, is it same as appeal - sorry again dont know much about APP processes first hand |
| Does anyone know if we will receive any confirmation after we send back the permission form for AAP? |
Yes, by email but it takes a few weeks. |
1. Scores on NNAT or CogAT at benchmark (usually 132) or higher --> in pool --> screening file prepared 2. Parent referral --> screening file prepared GBRS with Commentary added to screening file (done by Local Screening Committee) All screening files from #1 and #2 go to Central Screening Committee (it's actually most screening files, because Local Screening Committee could say the file does not move forward -- rare, but it happens) Central Screening Committee identifies Center eligible students APPEALS are for those that were NOT identified as Center eligible by Central Screening Committee |

I hope this can help others going forward:
NNAT: 121 COGAT: 124 WISC: 127 FSIQ with Fluid Reasoning, Verbal Comprehension and puzzles in low 130s and average/above average processing and working memory (Dr. said they look more at other subscores) GBRS: 8 (low, I know. Be sure to check your child's file. There were errors and mistakes on his report card, which must have been an early version.) We also included writing samples (from school and home), an award, three references, and a letter from us highlighting math skills, such as his progress on Dreambox). We figured it was 50-50. He got in. |
Do you mind sharing which school? And also, for WISC - what was the highest score in each of the subcategories? |

Child was in pool because of NNAT score above 132, but did not get in first round probably because of low CogAT score. We suspected something odd happened during the test because he only got a subscore of 115 on the subset of the CogAT section where the NNAT-related questions were tested. We hesitated to get him tested for the WISC but decided to go ahead in last minute and it turned out we were right about odd things happened during test day. Also, we put in work samples in the second round, as we did not do it in the first round since we were not crazy about the AAP program anyway. We hope this helps you. |
Thank you so much - this helps |
I think the issue with these scores and others you think were lower is that the others had at least one score break 130 (and most likely 132), not just a sub-score. |
agreed. lemon road is generally under-subscribed for AAP, so don't think that would be a limiting factor in acceptance. |
There isn't a fixed number of slots. |
\ Strong WISC - have seen kids w/ similar numbers accepted upon appeal. Try again next year |
