L'Ambiance added far more traffic than Sunrise will generate. Frankly, I am for some sort of affordable housing. This area needs it more than anything else and could sustain it well.

There is already affordable housing off Great Falls Street close to this intersection. This land is zoned R-3 and should remain so. If Foust wants to do a favor for his real estate buddies let him rezone part of 22102 or 22066.

I disagree that it should remain R-3. Fairfax is urbanizing and needs more condensed housing near bus lines and metro. This is a parcel that would be great for condos.

Either that or add some retail. A small shopping area would also be great for the area.

The land is zoned for 3 residential homes per acre and this requires a special zoning exception. In my opinion, and in the opinion of many of my neighbors, the project is far too large for that 3.7 acre site and will exacerbate traffic issues at that intersection.

Another one? There's a huge one around Chesterbrook ES, a nursing home on Powhatan, and another big one up the street next to Longfellow MS. I know a student who got hit by a car turning left from the retirement home on Westmoreland. What's wrong with moving to FL or AZ?

Haven't you heard? Today's seniors are 'aging in place'.

There's not enough room for a shopping area and it's halfway between downtown McLean and Idylwood Plaza in any event. And putting condos there would only cannibalize the markets for condos in Tysons.

"downtown" McLean?!

It's a totally residential area that's already congested - what are you talking about with retail and condos!!!!

I've been opposed to it (largely because I don't see any benefit, see potential pitfalls and houses don't worry me ) but it is good to hear from others who live near similar facilities and haven't seen a lot of impact.

Yes.

Living two blocks from the site gives me a good idea of what a Sunrise facility would do to the neighborhood with regard to traffic congestion and incompatibility with adjacent homes. It is a terrible idea. The space would make a lovely park. We need the trees and open space more than a six story facility in the middle of a residential area.

I live nearby also. A park isn't happening. Best case scenario is single family homes.

You've obviously never driven by the intersection. It's completely residential.

This is the best idea yet and is what should have happened with the Evans Farm Inn property. An ad-hoc group of citizens would have to raise the money and pay the church fair market value, though.

The traffic at the ones in Arlington off Glebe and Wilson is a PITA. I can see why people who live near the McLean site in a more residential area don't want the land rezoned.

What are you talking about? I live across the street from the one on Glebe and there is NO traffic issue. For the one on Wilson, the traffic is because of the school.

What an amazing idea. If anyone gets the ball rolling on that, I would happily get involved and donate, but we are talking about serious money. I think asking price was 6 million and I believe Sunrise would be paying more.

I can understand why people don't want the type of traffic there is on Glebe. Or the panhandlers either, for that matter, although they presumably aren't Sunrise residents.

A park would be perfect but that parcel is worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
