Well, the individual shelter units rent for $5K, so all in good company |
| Please. Let's quit acting as if Cathedral Commons or those tacky new rowhouses across from the police station are anything special. They are connected to a CVS and a Giant for goodness sake. |
| What are the rules for shelter residents when the shelters are within a couple blocks of preschools? Will the shelters be permitted to house convicted sex offenders in that situation? |
Hey, it's less ridiculous than proposing the Albermarle and RR sites, both of which house national landmarks, and thus are protected by federal laws from being knocked down to be turned into a shelter. |
I'm guessing sex offenders won't be allowed into shelter for women and children. |
Apologies, they are DC landmarks. They are still protected by federal laws though. Sometimes I wonder if the politicians picked places for these by tossing a coin. That's the only thing that would explain some of the absurdity in a number of proposed locations across the wards. |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reports I read said that only the Ward 2 shelter is designated for women. All other shelters are open to everyone, and likely will be housing primarily men. |
| Some earlier PP hit the nail on the head -- Why is DC planning to pay extremely high acquisition costs for some sites in expensive neighborhoods, instead of putting that same money to better use by offering more and better services in less-expensive locations. It's like Bowser is trying to waste money just to score political points by showing she stuck it equally to all wards. That's just a waste of money. |
Yes, that's the city we live in. Thank the Lord for economic growth and gentrification. |
If Bowser really wants to prove her bona fides, let's see her propose a site near her Colonial Village home. I don't see any shelters near her. |
A rising tide lifts all homeless boats or something like that. And by the way, rich white lady can, you spare some change? I need to buy a quart of organic malt liquor from Whole Foods. I'm tryin' to drink "clean" you know. |
Priceless. Also somewhat accurate if they end up putting it at Wisconsin Ave or River Rd as the only nearby grocery store there is Whole Foods (the Safeway on Wisconsin near RR is closing in less than a month.) Assistance money is going to be enough to buy half a loaf of bread a week there. |
They do have excellent bagels at Calvert Woodley Fine Wines & Spirits, next to the Albemarle address. |
Actually there are three stores that sell liquor (one just beer and wine) within a one block radius of the site. |
DC is probably stuck with "Muriel Barry' for a few more years.... |
