What are the rules for shelter residents when the shelters are within a couple blocks of preschools? Will the shelters be permitted to house convicted sex offenders in that situation?

Hey, it's less ridiculous than proposing the Albermarle and RR sites, both of which house national landmarks, and thus are protected by federal laws from being knocked down to be turned into a shelter.

Apologies, they are DC landmarks. They are still protected by federal laws though. Sometimes I wonder if the politicians picked places for these by tossing a coin. That's the only thing that would explain some of the absurdity in a number of proposed locations across the wards.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reports I read said that only the Ward 2 shelter is designated for women. All other shelters are open to everyone, and likely will be housing primarily men.

Some earlier PP hit the nail on the head -- Why is DC planning to pay extremely high acquisition costs for some sites in expensive neighborhoods, instead of putting that same money to better use by offering more and better services in less-expensive locations. It's like Bowser is trying to waste money just to score political points by showing she stuck it equally to all wards. That's just a waste of money.

Priceless. Also somewhat accurate if they end up putting it at Wisconsin Ave or River Rd as the only nearby grocery store there is Whole Foods (the Safeway on Wisconsin near RR is closing in less than a month.) Assistance money is going to be enough to buy half a loaf of bread a week there.

They do have excellent bagels at Calvert Woodley Fine Wines & Spirits, next to the Albemarle address.
