Got into 3 schools with acceptance rates of 35% or above (all considered safeties, good merit aid) and 1 low match (no aid), WL at a high match and a reach, rejected at 2 high reaches. Didn't apply to any ivies. The accepted schools are all strong so it will be okay but the WLs are a little painful.

That sounds like my DC a couple years ago, similar stats but not STEM. Accepted at 3 good safeties (25-30% admit rates, no merit aid), WL at 4 matches, denied at 2 ivies and one other school. None of the WL worked out.

And how did that work out?

This is purely anecdotal but my Sidwell kid got into Penn and his two best friends got into Cornell and ( hooked) Brown. So as far as I know it went well. But I haven't yet heard of any HYP admissions except for EA, and then I think 5 got into Yale
(not hooked as far as I know), and two (hooked) got in to Harvard (EA). Of course, not everyone shares.

Any one is feasible financially (<$33K or less/year all-inclusive) and a possible good fit, but DC has boiled it down to three final choices and will visit all three for overnights in the next month.

We are very pleased with how it has worked out.

PP, Please name the schools that offered merit aid. It would help those of us in the donut hole. DS is upset that he can't apply to NESCAC schools, but none offer merit aid.

Allegheny, Muhlenberg, Ursinus, Juniata, Susquehanna, College of Wooster, Wittenberg, Ohio Wesleyan, Kenyon, Denison, U. of Mary Washington. Beloit, Augustana, Whitman, St. Olaf, Lawrence U., Clark U., Marlboro, Champlain, Agnes Scott, Guilford.

Did your child apply to all these schools? Or are these colleges that generally offer merit aid?

These are schools that offer merit aid.

My DC applied to eight SLACs that offer merit aid, and received merit aid from all eight.

Mine applied to 5 SLACs that offer merit aid, and received merit aid (no financial aid) from all 5 that brought the total cost close close to what we would pay at our state flagship.

You are missing more than a few facts, including the correct number at Harvard, Princeton, UChicago, Dartmouth, Brown and a few others.

I think that's why PP said it was purely anecdotal as opposed to an official listing?

Don't be defensive. Other poster was just suggesting that there are a few more than indicated.

Which SLACs? Stats? And did your DC get more than $25K at any SLAC? My DS got $5K at several, but not enough at any to bring the cost of the SLAC down to the cost of our state flagship. DS is not happy about that.

Not PP, but my DC got merit aid awards at SLACs ranging from $15k/year to $30k/year, bringing the cost to between $23k and $36k/year, depending on where DC goes.

UW GPA 3.8, W 4.0. SAT CR = 770, M= 640. 8 APs in English and social sciences but just standard math and science track.

Received merit offers of ~$25k per year from Wooster, Lawrence, Kalamazoo. $30k from Earlham. $20k from Clark.

Thought somebody would take a gamble on my 35 and 800 level 2 math. Joke's on me. Sucks.

My nephew is going to a great SLAC from his unimpressive high school in Oklahoma (so small they didn't offer ANY foreign languages). My brother and his wife are losers so he qualified for full financial aid. So glad he's got that opportunity--his parents didn't encourage anything more that community college or the state U, but DH and I really pushed him to apply elsewhere and helped with test prep and applications.
