Who was more involved preparing your kid's AAP file?

That's because your'e not crazed like so many others in this area. Genius-type kids may have challenges in Gen Ed, but most smart kids will do fine no matter where they are placed. I have a GT kid who got meh grades in HS and a not-even-close-to GT kid who has so far earned straight A's in honors and IB. Where a kid is placed in grade school means very little except for parents who like to brag at the playground.

To be clear, I don't think filling out the questionnaire for my kid helped (or hurt) my kid's chances of getting into the program. I can say that I am glad I did it because it made me take the time to think about my kid and whether or not this is a good program for him.

Then why'd you put your meh kid in the program?

I didn't put my kid anywhere. He got into the program automatically based on test scores and GBRS, I presume. I never asked and didn't fill out a parent referral so I really don't know.

And I don't have a meh kid, but a kid more interested in learning and exploring his interests than in grades (hence the not so impressive GPA). Fortunately, he did enough on his own (invention-wise) to get into a great college. I don't think his placement in elementary school affected him much either way, but he wanted to go to the center so we let him. And not being in a center clearly hasn't hurt my other child.

We did not submit anything....the parent questionnaire or work samples. DC met the benchmark on both tests and is now in second year at the center. The reason we did not submit anything is because we were not sure that moving to the level IV center was the right move for our child. Only after being accepted did we, along with our dc, make the decision to attend the center.

This is us, except DC is in pool only due to Cogat results. (Score on NNAT totally average; like 50th percentile I think. That score was kind of surprising based on how others talk about our child, but what do we know?)

If DC is found eligible, we'll do some more research and evaluate if it seems like a good fit. This message board is VERY interesting in terms of preliminary "research."

Because I've BTDT and anytime I read breathless posts on stuff like this, I feel like people who are new to this with kids in the lower grades could probably benefit from some perspective.
