With the obesity epidemic in this country, we should not be normalizing a size 16 as a desireable body.

But we've been normalizing and celebrating size 00 for years. Why is it only disgusting and pandering only on one side of the BMI scale?

A lot of suffering comes from trying to fit an unrealistic (and equally unhealthy) body "ideal".

Then use a size six to size ten model.

This lady is at an unhealthy size. We have an obesity epidemic in this country, not a too thin epidemic.

Eating disorders are in fact a problem in this country.

If the choice is to medicate a patient with a drug for OCD and it stops the cycle of starvation and/or binge/purging, why would you NOT do it? The woman I spoke of (the activist) said "because if she goes off the medication, the ED will start again". Well, that's how OCD works, usually, which is why it's combined often with behavioral modification. Without the meds, the 'voice' of the ED shuts down the brain to the behavior mod therapy. Calming that voice with a drug such as Zoloft, allows the therapy to be much more effective.

If you think EDs are just a brain glitch that can be cured with medication you're sadly mistaken. I'm a therapist and work with clients with many issues, including eating disorders and OCD. You're not incorrect to mention that there are aspects of disordered eating which resemble OCD, however it's really not that simple. There are many additional factors in play for many (if not most) ED clients. This includes family dynamics and the wider culture that sends messages to women that thinness is revered above health and self-acceptance..

If Marilyn was 5'5" and weighed between 115-120, she was not a size 12. That would have been more a 7/8. She was busty for that weight and that would have made her top size bigger..maybe. But not a size 12.

Jayne Mansfield was 5'5" and 128. She is listed has having been a size 4 but I think at that weight and with her busty/curvy sort of body type she would have been more around a size 9-10.

It's interesting because either she has lost weight or this photo is fairly significantly photo shopped. I just googled her and her legs are much heavier in most of the runway and lingerie shots of her that pop up.
