| Oh yeah, cause race is not a factor in any of this school stuff. Nothing to see here, move along. |
Easy. Get Bowser, the city council and DCPS to commit to renovate E-H from top to bottom within two years, and allow Brent to feed in. Then create a full honors classes there, not just grade level classes branded as honors class, as at Stuart Hobson. Then have E-H teach all the tough subjects, and offer all the enrichment, Deal does, e.g. Arabic, Mandarin and 7th grade algebra, along with Deal-quality extra curriculars. Done. |
Not sure Brent families would find this all that enticing. If there is an option to leave DCPS after 4th for charters or private then it's a done deal as far as they are concerned. Henderson isn't going to be interested because she seems to think that Brent students are the rising tide that will lift Jefferson. Some of us actually remember the Ward 6 Middle School Plan and Henderson's promise to address middle school issues in FY15. http://greatergreatereducation.org/post/21141/dcpss-response-to-the-demand-for-a-plan-to-fix-middle-schools-well-get-back-to-you/ |
FY15/Year of middle schools --> Brookland Middle and part of MacFarland opening next fall. Oh and study abroad for 8th graders. While people on Capitol Hill don't like their MS options, at least you have them. - Ward 4 family whose kids will be in college before the promised "North Middle School" opens |
I'm the PP you're talking about. I'm not white and neither is one of the people sending their kid to Eliot-Hine. Both of us are high SES. Careful- your racism is showing. |
Not the PP but I have children at Brent and we would definitely find that enticing. The only reason people jump ship to charters is because they have to. An honors option in a renovated neighborhood middle school would be extremely appealing. |
| I'm a Maury parent and would find it enticing as well. |
|
There aren't as many Cap Hill parents in "privates" as this thread seems to suggest. Too expensive for 2-3 kids.
|
Right. And they can easily sell their homes, usually for a profit. So they move. |
That's not been my experience at all. We have many friends with older kids sending them to private. Not sure what you're trying to say. I know many people with kids in Maury who put them in private middle/high schools. Maybe you just hang out with too many of the "poors". |
I really hope I don't know you IRL. |
My guess is that you weren't around when Henderson and Abby Smith sold us a bill of goods on the new and improved Jefferson Academy. DCPS will never implement an honors program that results in a de facto segregation of students based on race/SES. |
| My child did not like Maury and we changed schools after 3 month. It was not a positive environment and I addressed my issues and the principal for some reason made things worse. Really bad experience with school and administration - shockingly bad. |
Right back at you! I try not to be friends with people who are too dense to understand sarcasm. |
What were some of the issues experienced? |
