Pretty sure it is the transportation. My son is going on a field trip to Burke Nursery and it costs $17. It costs $10 to get in on weekdays without a group discount. Have to assume the other cost is the bus. |
| Oh, it gets worse. Daughter's 5th grade class is taking an overnight camping trip. cost: $185. |
| Jamestown field trip is $42. |
| Our FCPS Jamestown field trip is $59! My daughter has an annual pass to Jamestown, so I tried to see if we could pay less. School said the entire cost is for transportation! With 100 fourth graders, that's about $6000 for the bus. I know it's a long field trip, both distance and time-wise, but how could it cost so much? Am I missing something? |
| My 7th grader is going to Medieval Times - $46. |
| I'd say the obvious difference in prices to the same destination is the number of students attending. |
That's a really weird field trip for 7th grade. How in the world are they justifying that as educational? |
They're doing medieval Europe in World Studies. |
Huh. And eating chicken with your hands and watching some people pretend to joust is going to help them learn more about medieval Europe? I'd be super annoyed if money and class time were spent on that field trip, and I'm one that usually loves field trips. |
If you don't want your child to go, keep your child home. Is it my favorite idea of a field trip? No. Am I going to micromanage the World Studies curriculum based on a field trip to Medieval Times? Also no. There are many, many, many more important things to worry about, in my opinion. |
What part of my post made you think I was going to micromanage a curriculum? I think it's weird and annoying. But that hardly means it's the top of my worry priority list. This is a random internet thread about the cost of field trips. Surely talking about field trips in this thread isn't worth getting worked up about. |
