We hated the Disney Cruise

How can any adult LOVE Disney World? It's an amusement park - go once - enjoy the day and be done with it.

We tried the parks a few years ago and had meltdown after meltdown (Even following the - early morning, rest, late afternoon idea that is supposed to make the trip more relaxing) The walking, the lines, the heat. My husband and I made a pact not to do Disney again until the kids were old enough to understand the whole "we stand in line for a 4 min. ride thing.)

Fast forward a year or two - the Disney Cruise was magical for us. They had the characters for the kids, without the lines. Kids clubs they didn't want to leave, great service and food (In the adult only restaurants)

We don't feel like we are cheating our kids out of the disney magic (The princesses etc) And, unlike the parks, the random character interaction makes so many lasting memories!

If you do not like cruises - no cruise will make you happy. If you are expecting a club med/no kids/ quiet adult only river cruise - it won't happen.

But for us, having the chance to relax, enjoy both family and adult time, and give the kids the "Disnet Experience" without walking all over the parks and standing in lines - the cruise was 100% worth it.

Finally - to the person who said they can do Disney for a week for less $$. To stay at a Deluxe resort for 7 days is approx. 6,000 - not including meals. For us - the 7 night cruise ended up being less expensive.

Be wary of the kids clubs - we were turned away because they club was "at capacity".

I have not seen prices like that. I don't think two cabins for 4k for five nights is a commercially available price.

The original post was from 2015. The prices are insane now.

I HATE Disney world. I mean HATE. My kids never went, never will. They are older tween aged now but we just are not Disney people (except for Marvel/Pixar movies - but not Donald Duck et al).

I LOVE Disney the business. They know how to make money.

I AM NOT a cruise person in general. The idea of being on a ship full of people out to sea freaks me out - not being on land is really hard for me. I love water but I have a problem knowing I'm stuck on that ship. I just prefer to adventure on my own. I don't like the small rooms so I need to spend a zillion dollars on these cruises. I get the advantages of cruising but it's just not for me.

I LOVED the Disney cruise I went on and my friends as well rave about them (all of us have done with kids). As far as cruises go, they are really good overall mainstream anyway esp if you have kids. People that enjoy cruising will love them because for the most part, they do the highlights well. I think OP you may just not be into cruising in general because it's kinda like amusement parks - I hate them all but I can say I love Dollywood. When something is well done, it's hard to hate it. I don't think I'd do it more than once but I can appreciate it. Ditto Disney cruises.

We loved it. But we’re “trashy” like that!

Prices dont seem too expensive on the sale cruises. Watched some youtube reviews and was not impressed with the food offerings. Seems the cruises have good service, very small pools. stikk considering to try one in the next year or so.

Just be prepared for CROWDS! The pools are very small. The line for Aqua Duck is very long. Look carefully at the crowding in the kids club before you send your child in there. Hopefully, you won't have a hurricane. And don't limit your kids to what is on the dinner menu -- just ask the waiter to get your child whatever they want. We didn't do that and wish we had used their "service" to the full extent.

I took my dc one year and the kids menu was pretty bad. The waiter seemed a bit miffed that my son was ordering steaks, fish etc., but why on earth at Disney price point would anyone stick to Mickey shaped nuggets.

It was a good time in general, although I did almost cry when the seas were too rough to dock at Castaway. I think I actually shed tears because I was stuck on the boat for 3 days straight. I’m not really a fan of children. I enjoy my kids company but I’m really not a kid person. But my kid had a great time. We are going back for Thanksgiving.

Disney cruise are great. We went on 18 when the kids were growing up. None since kids started high school. You have to do your homework. Yes the pools are crowded. You cannot go when you want. You need to be there when it opens or at some other time when everyone is doing something else. Those times exist. Aquaduck --- same. At open or some other time when people are elsewhere. Kid's club was great when kids were young but by middle school had aged out of it. Agree on dinner as they will do whatever you want.

Good tips. When I cruise, do not get off at all the ports. Most ports, I stay on ship and enjoy everything that is normally crowded. Paradise. This is the key.

You people do realize that for the price you're paying for this plastic nonsense, you could take your kids on a real trip to Europe, Hawaii, or perhaps hiking or skiing?

Tell me you've never been to Disney World without telling me you've never been.

The trips you describe require some 'work' and pps want to relax.

We went with DD 4 and 8 on a Disney European cruise
Food is not as good as other cruises which is expected, but the kids did not even like the kids club😮

People are insane to pay that — for crappy food?!?

I take my kids to Hawaii, Europe, hiking, skiing, and Disney. Not sure why that is so hard for so many people to understand.

Which ship did you go on—big or small?

How long was your cruise, and where did you go?

^^^^

It matters.

Pro tip: the smaller the ship, the better the food and service. The longer the trip, the better the itinerary and experience.
