Is that something you do in Illinois?

No, that's something the associates at DLA Piper do...too soon?

Apparently we did too but had no idea until we met with a financial planner. Never even occurred to us to celebrate.

To quote Joe Biden

"this is a big fucking deal"

Congratulations !

Do something simple: pick up a pricey bottle of Champagne and some decadent finger food and toast your spouse to your success this evening. You can spend the time reminiscing on your struggles and your journey to the place you are now. Congrats again!

No doubt it's an emotional thing. Doesn't have to be rational. For me, it was a big fat deal because it allowed me to contrast my current situation with my childhood, when my parents didn't have enough money to send me on school field trips. I'd never say his in person, because it might make me seem petty and silly. But honestly deep deep down, it makes me feel so secure. That's a big effing deal to me!

You are a very likable person. I am right there with your sentiments.

Why all the nastiness? Great job OP.

That's awesome. It's really exciting when you hit your first million. I would go out and have a nice meal. Maybe also a spa day

Nice job, OP. Thanks for sharing -- you're inspirational! And I don't think the college / house are cheating at all.

What about establishing a new financial saving tradition. E.g., each of you start putting $20 per week in a jar, and at the end of each year when you have $2000, pick a new stock to buy? You'll start building your millionaire stock portfolio.

Also, buy a 2015 bottle of wine to save and open when you're net worth grows to the next level.

Have fun and pat yourself on the back.

Sincere Congratulations, OP. We are still struggling a bit mostly from overwhelming medical bills even with great insurance. BUT - The last couple of months have finally offered a little more breathing room. It feels good to slowly accomplish a goal. I think it's awesome that you were able to save and reach that financial milestone!

I'm not sure how I would celebrate. When we made the last of an $18,000 medical bill, we just went out for dessert and coffee. But it felt great!

How was this a humblebrag? There was nothing humble about it.

That's big too. Medical bills are the worst! So stressful. Congrats!

Congrats, that's awesome. And you should be proud and celebrate. I'd splurge on something you wouldn't otherwise splurge on.

When I made my first million what I did was, keep my mouth shut because people who have more think it is no big deal and that you are acting like a douche and people with less think you are bragging and acting like a douche. Bottom line, only douches discuss their wealth.

Congratulations. You have proved that slow and steady wins the race.

Please, teach this important lesson to your kids too. You are an inspiration.
