Now the valentines are made by parents?!?!?

So glad my kid doesn't go to your kid's school where parents ruin all the fun.

Your K student can't write their name yet? Give me a break. They should be in preschool then. I call BS.

Aren't you nasty? Children with disabilities are not held back because they often will continue to be behind for years to come. My DS has a disability that makes writing difficult even in 5th grade. Just because he couldn't write in K didn't mean he wasn't able to learn along with his peers or that he wasn't mature enough.

I agree OP. Parents coddle their kids, do things for them and then we wonder why kids this age can't write their names, tie their shoes, zipper their jacket. OT's actually make money off of helicopter moms. It is really sad.

MAKE THEM DO IT. They will learn it.

If your child is halfway thru kindergarten and can not write their name 20 times over the course of a week, it is YOUR problem. Do you have them write their name daily? Do they do strengthening exercises, write and color all the time, play doh, monkey bars, wheel barrow game, string necklaces, build legos, put pennies in slits of containers, use tweezers to pick up beads or rice?

Or do they just participate in organized events and then go home and swipe on an iPad and watch TV? I bet they have velcro sneakers and easy pull up pants too.

Well they shouldn't be in mainstream classes if they can not write. That is part of the curriculum. Sadly, not nearly as much as it should be.

My INFANT at daycare was "required" to bring in 28 Valentine's last week! When we got them, it looked like at least half were complex craft projects done by parents. Seriously, people? Who has time? Especially when you have older kids who also require Valentines for the whole class...

Well, my kindergartener hates arts & crafts projects and refused to do hand-made cards for 27 kids in his class. Besides, it's not like he's friends with all of these kids, just 4-5.

+1. My 3rd grader's handwriting is awful, just awful. But he tests really well so who cares?

Awe, poor kid. Really feel for you. Of course your son shouldn't have to write his name a "whole" 27 times. And we should definately teach to not do nice things for others. MOTY award goes to you.

You are clueless and heartless. My DC did all of the above but he has a DISABILITY that did not get better with 5 years of OT, often 3x a week. And my kids rarely watch tv. I'm glad your precious offspring find life so easy. To blame a parent is really low. I'm glad that I don't know you IRL. I hope karma bites you.

Really? My child scores in the 98% on IQ and upper 90s on all standardized tests. He is one of the top students in his class. Where should he be? He types his work so he doesn't have a problem completing assignments. As an adult, how often do you use a pencil vs a keyboard? If the educators believe he belongs in a mainstream class, then I think they know better than you.
