| Oldest has first rights to shotgun. Most of the time she wants it, but sometimes she doesn't. |
Exactly. And you can’t call it until you are out the door. Natural consequences for not being ready to go when I say to be ready. Then whoever rides in the back gets shotgun the next trip - usually the ride home. This idea that the older gets priority over the younger is messed up. Why are one child’s wants more important than the other’s? Does the older child get seconds while the younger one watches or do they split? |
I’m a new poster. I’m also the youngest in my own immediate family. We have the oldest ride in the front seat but that’s because my younger one (13) does seem to care that much. |
| Twins and they take turns. sometimes the prefer to be in the back seat (well, middle row of the minivan) and recline their seats. Thankfully, once the novelty wore off, no one cares. |
| The with better aim. Isn’t that the point? |
Just like in my childhood...whoever calls it and gets there first !!
|
Oh and same goes with the right corner of the couch by the end table before we put on a movie or series. Time repeats itself. I prefer to watch it play out. |
| Who ever rides shotgun has to talk to the driver and cannot text or play on their phone. |
|
My issue is that my kids will run out to the car and "save" their seat with a book or a jacket. Then when kid #2 goes out, throws that stuff on the ground and sits there, kid #1 is outraged. He called it! he saved it!
Sometimes I just want to drive away leaving them fighting on the driveway. |
Yeah. You can’t save seat like that. Tough sh@t. Need to be physically there. Thems the rules
|
As a mother, I would tell “seat saver” that^^ I’ve told my kids if they got up from couch they lose their spot. Rules from my childhood
|
Hahaha, same. Plus, my kids enjoy each others’ company (they’re also 3 years apart) and would talk/conspire in the backseat. Now that the oldest can drive, they like sitting in the front together and I sit in the back in peace. |
Duh. Everyone knows this.

You’re a genius. |
| I just love that there are 5 pages of replies to a question about who rides shotgun. |
