I put hand me downs sports bras and similar in my daughter’s closet in the 3rd grade. Mostly bc she plays lacrosse and the uniform is a tank and it’s so hot for summer tournaments. She started to wear them this year in 4th to school bc she said all her friends do. None of them really need to but that’s okay.

At this point, if DD wants one before her body needs one, then that's fine and I'd be happy to get her some.

(I know that I got my first bras in mid sixth grade, and pretty much all us girls were wearing them by the spring of that year.)

Agree. When the tshirt isn’t covering things well.

People these days tend to think it's okay to dress a 10 year old like a 20 year old and it's not. Girls should start wearing bras when they need them. Not when they want them. It's a step into adulthood that shouldn't be taken too lightly IMO.

So if your flat-chested 12-year-old in middle school wants a bra because every other girl (most of whom are not flat-chested) in school is wearing one, you're going to say no? On principle?

I’d get a few.

Why waste mindshare on peer pressure or gossip. Just get one and move on. 12 is pretty far along for girls puberty, fyi.

My DD started wearing a sports bra for soccer at age 10.5 or so because she found it more comfortable. I encourage her to wear a bra for some occasions (like singing in a concert / spotlight with a white top) but outside soccer she generally doesn’t. She’s finishing fifth grade and I asked if she’d like to shop for a bra that would work with her halter-top dress. She said it would be WAY more embarrassing for someone to see her bra straps than for someone to notice she has nipples. 😂
