Sometimes I feel very guilty about doing so but I have seen a couple other people 'come out' and it has been really ugly. So I just nod and smile. I just walk away from conversations where people are trashing Christianity or mocking a specific person because of their faith. Not very Christian of me to not stand up for them but I am not prepared to handle the consequences of speaking up.

This is me but Im Muslim, I am almost always around people trashing and mocking Islam, I usually just keep quiet and I do feel like an asshole for staying quiet, but I am very afraid of how they will judge me/ interact with me once they find out Im Muslim

This is my life as a Catholic. People say utterly untrue and intentionally offensive things because they don't think I'm Catholic because of my race (which is itself proof of their ignorance about the religion). In much of the U.S. Catholicism and Islam are the last two religions that people feel safe to mock.

Nope, Mormons get a lot of mocking too -- there's a hit broadway musical that mocks them.

And don't forget Jews -- the holocaust -- plus in this country they were shut out of some neighborhoods and even whole towns. I'm told there were parks that had signs "no dogs and no Jews."

At least for the Jews, mockery is frowned upon today. Not so for the Catholics, Muslims and Mormons.

Maye it will take something rally dramatic to stop the mockery -- unless the mockery is justified, based on particular activities/beliefs of the religions. Unless all religions have special status that does not permit mockery.
