Can someone tell me OBJECTIVELY what kinds of kids should not attend Holton or Stone Ride?

Current Holton 9th grade has a lot of drinkers? Wow, that doesn't seem accurate to me. My 9th grader there is very sweet and a ton of her friends do not drink at all - most of their parties are all girls with movies/sleepovers. She is in the academic crowd but that's a big crowd for the 9th grade class. I think you will find trouble anywhere if you go looking for it but I really don't think the majority of that class is trouble!

DD is in MS and says the current 9th is a great class. Current 10 and current 7 horrible.

There are a lot of nice girls in the 7th and 10th grade classes, despite the reputation of some. Current 8th and 9th are both overall great classes.

I totally agree that there are great girls in 10th this year at Holton as well. My 9th grade daughter definitely has friends in that class who are not drinkers or ones who tend to party. She also is happy for the current 8th grade to come up in the fall because she says they are nice kids.

TJ Mom...what are you doing constantly raving about TJ? We've heard you before...go back to the VA Public School forum. We get it...you love TJ! Good for you!

Hard workers who are very bright but NOT highly gifted.
Girls who are shy and need a nurturing environment to thrive
Those who are interested in the arts and photography. Great teachers for this.
Those who like to play sports. Great sports program and lots of offerings. Even if you're not great at the sports if you like it you'll get a chance to play on a team, which is great.
Teens with a lot of angst. Their counselors and teachers are great at dealing with this.

Bad for:
Someone who is highly gifted academically. They would max out the course offerings and be bored. And while the students are all very smart it's really rare to find someone who is, say, TJ-level smart.
Some teachers value mediocrity, group think so if your child is really out there in terms of thinking it wouldn't be a great fit.
Someone who is really academically competitive. Just not that much competition there and you don't really get to know your class rank or anything like that. There aren't a lot of contests per se.

Maybe it's someone who is both a Holton and TJ mom?

Not likely pp. TJ mom only wants her kids going to TJ.

I would not recommend a girls school if your daughter does not have a brother. Seen a lot of those cases.
I also do not think it is a warm and welcoming place for those who are getting by on small incomes.
