Who requires a garage?

Anonymous
Yes- need my garage. I'm used to getting in/out of the car in my garage and really appreciate it on cold/rainy mornings- especially when I'm dropping DS and DD off at school and then coming right back into my garage. (by the way- I usually wear my slippers when I do this)

Pretty much everyone in CA has a garage

Not true. Like here, it depends on what city and neighborhood you're talking about.

My husband would not look at a house without a garage, now that we have one I won't either. No garage, non starter.

Same here. One of my favorite parts of moving to our current home was not having to deal with the elements when coming and going from our house, especially since I had small children in tow. It's so nice to go out to a cool car in the summer and a clear, warmer car in the winter. I'd never want to give up a garage.

+1

+2 ... no snow/ice scraping!!!

Loved my garage today!

Man, y'all are soft. Call the waaahmbulance ... my raincoat got a little wet in the 4 seconds it took getting to my car today.

Hmm... I lugged groceries and 2 young kids in the pouring rain just yesterday! But I'm still not missing a garage -- I think it's all about what you're used to and expectations. It's not common to have a garage in our close-in neighborhood, and it's definitely not a requirement for us (and in fact unlikely) for our next house. I would really love off street parking though.

So is the snow, ice, salted-roads season.

And the leaves and crap falling from the sky season.

You see why you need a garage?

We are in a great 'hood in the burbs. We love the house, but the dumb ass from whom we purchased the house, turned the garage into a studio - which is now the kids' room.

I'm sure it's a future project - to build another garage - but it's definitely costly!

I have a garage and love it, but it wasn't a deal breaker. However, in the neighborhoods I was looking in, having some kind of dedicated parking was an absolute requirement - otherwise you could come home and have to park blocks away.

The kind of people that demand a three-car garage are not the kind of people looking for a house in Chevy Chase.

And that is a good thing.

No it's a space issue. There are some in cc md because some lots are larger.

Primitive, I guarantee you new builds in your neighborhood will have them. I can show you if you give me the area.

We live in Arlington with a one car decent sized garage. I don't think it is necessary. Would not be a deal breaker. Heck, a driveway isn't even a dealbreaker for me. I dream small.

We live in McLean and a two car garage was a requirement for us. Had a townhouse in Clarendon with side parking, no garage. Never again.

No deal breaker for us.

We've lived in rowhouses without even a driveway.

We now live close-in in an extremely walkable neighborhood with a long driveway and no parking. Homes here sell in the 1.2-2 million range without garages.

We do have a large shed in the back.
