Job offer in Bmore, DH working in DC - where to live? and preschool situation?

If you live in Ellicott City, you have a 15/20 minute drive to BWI MARC (I think that might be the closest station). You have to park and walk to the train in time to catch it, so that's about 10 minutes. And then it's 40 minutes (and that's on a good day with no delays) to Union Station. So, on a good day, you've got an hour to get to Union Station. And then you need to get from Union Station to wherever you work.

Most days, Ellicott City to DC, if you use the MARC, is going to be over an hour from your door to Union Station, especially if you leave during rush hour, because you will hit some traffic driving to the MARC station.

There's no way you are going to have a 45-50 minute commute from Ellicott City to DC (driving or using MARC). It's more like one leg of your commute will be 45 minutes. (like the MARC ride), but you have to factor in getting to the MARC station and parking. And then add to that delays, because you will have at least 1 day a week with train delays.

I'm not saying that's a bad commute by DC standards (especially given the alternatives), but it's not 45 minutes.

my bro-in-law catches the train somewhere near 29 or 32 in Columbia. a bit shorter than from BWI, and he works right near Capitol Hill/Union Station. His commute from EC is less than an hour to DC, and it would be under 30 minutes to Baltimore.
