We started reading to our first in the hospital and with the second I don't think she saw a book until she was about eight months. We went into survival mode

| Started on day 1. Dc loved being read to and started reading (real reading, not memorization) at 3. It's pretty amazing to watch the progression. |
Are you playing dumb? |
| My son just tried to eat books until 9-10 months of age. Around that time, he started to like them. We didn't read to him as a tiny infant-- just talking to them is perfectly sufficient at that age. At age 4, he loves being read to and has for years. |
| We read two books every night. Started at day one of life. We also read books throughout the day. |

We didn't read to our twins until they were 2. Not a single book.
But despite that they were early readers and love books. As first graders now they are each among the top readers in their respective classes. They read and comprehend absolutely anything. |
Same here. First kid loved books from the get go and we read to him every night. Second loves me to talk to him but if I pull out a book, he snatches it out of my hand and won't let me read it. He does like to chew on them though. |
| I read the paper to my seven week old twins. |

My DS didn't care for books until about a year. I also tried, and he squirmed and wanted to do other things. The worst thing you can do, I think, is make a kid read when they don't want to. It should be fun, not torture!
My DS was not into reading until all of a sudden he fell in love with books around 12 months. Now he's almost 2 and could spend hours looking at books. Instead of reading, try rhymes and songs. Rhyming is supposed to be really good for reading development (though I doubt it matters at 2 months!). Rhymes, finger plays, and songs are way more fun for little kids and just as good for them! |
