me too - Forestville Elementary

My doc child will be attending kindergarten next year. What grade are your children? How do you like it?
I am debating whether or not to go private.

How do you like Cunningham Park? I have kids at Colvin Run and we're thinking of moving so they can go to a non-center school.

That's not a non-center school people seek out.

I've heard good things about it. Why do you say that?

Poster with a child at CPES and Colvin Run:

This is my take - CPES is a GREAT school (although you're right, it's probably not one parents would actively seek out). I took my 3rd grader out to go to CR because she was bored - it happened in 3rd grade, I/she was happy up until then.

I have a current 1st grader, nope it's not the most challenging school, but it has wonderful, warm and caring staff and at the end of the day -- it's first grade and my daughter is happy there! She may well spend the rest of her elementary years there and I would be happy with that. If you want your child at a non-center school, CPES is a good option.

Why? Just curious. We are in Spring Hill district and went to a private as well. Just moved to public.

I'm the 2nd guesser. Our DC was accepted to Sidwell and we love the small class size, the feeling of community, and the kind, nurturing environment that seems to foster a love of learning. Out DC cannot wait to go to school. We (or me, not my wife) dislike paying $35,000 for this, the commute time, and the feeling that outside of school itself, there is a slim chance of 'running into a classmate at the sweetleaf' etc, b/c all the students come from such a broad area. If we were at springhill, I wonder if the sense of 'community' would be better. But, we'll see---for now we're happy, and as time progresses we'll either stay at sidwell or move to public----it just depends on how much the kid likes it.

Is anyone else surprised that there are so few Haycock posters?

From the VA schools forum and the AAP forum, one would assume that Haycock parents represented the majority of the posters in VA.

Maybe they are just the loudest.

I'm the PP looking for a non-center school. CPES sounds wonderful to me. A normal, low-key, community school without the division of AAP is what I'm looking for for my DC. Thanks for the input.
