I'm not the pp, but in my opinion, what makes this poster a bigot is the assumption that immigrant = "welfare, subsidized housing, free school with ESOL and FARMS" and the assertion that the poster has "never once seen a hispanic family attend or be involved in their child's school or education." I seriously doubt that's true. And if it is, it's more evidence that more outreach efforts are needed. These are kids we're talking about, and they deserve to feel (and have their families feel) included in their schools.

What is funny is that the pp doesn't even realize:

1) school is free for every person in this country -- not just immigrants
ESOL = English for Speakers of Other Languages -- not just Spanish speaking immigrants

"Murican' kids can learn a foreign language for free as well -- it's called LANGUAGE IMMERSION!

2) doesn't know the difference between people from Colombia, Spain, Mexico (they are all Spanish to pp)

3) Plenty of 'Murican' kids get FARMS -- I was one when I was kid -- and guess what I turned out ok -- go figure -- a person with lower-income parents turned out ok

4) His/Her ignorance is doing as much damage to him/her as it is to the people to whom he/she is spewing it -- SMH!

My mother will say it's b/c no one catered to them.

However, they also came to this country with trades behind them - and with a fairly solid educational background. They were literate in their OWN language, which meant that picking up English was much easier.

Today's immigrants arrive with few skills and most are NOT literate in their own language.

And people are arguing about why some students and schools are performing poorly???

The "Know-Nothings" joined other nativists to successfully elect sympathetic politicians to public office. They opposed the further immigration of "cheap working foreigners." In 1854, nativists elected nine governors and numerous members of state legislatures and Congress. Two years later their presidential candidate, Millard Fillmore, won almost 25 percent of the national vote for president. He had already served a term as president before joining the Native American Party. But nativists divided over the issue of slavery, and the Native American Party eventually collapsed."
