I'm not sure who you're referring to as the "Wackadoodle" set. Judging by your ignorance, I'm going to assume you're trying to demean supporters of the Tea Party. Further judging your ignorance, you can click below and see that I'm correct. These are not tea partiers, they are teachers, who also strongly oppose CC. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nysut/sets/72157634006332437/ |
Yes...teachers' unions have been at odds with the Obama administration, other Democrats, and ed reformers in general on a number of issues. What's your point? There are a number of Republicans who do support CC and actually many of Obama's ed priorities. It's nice to see some bipartisanship somewhere, although it's more at the state level than at the national. |
My point, was to point out that this isn't your standard Tea Party hates Obama debate as the originators of this thread probably tried to make it. And that there's a variaty of stakeholders that don't normally take the same sides who are opposed to CC. Personally, I couldn't care less about this issue. |
huh I'm a curriculum writer using the CC to create an instructional framework for high school English. But I suppose I'm too dumb to get it right . . . |
| One of the first things I learned as a teacher was to evaluate where my students were--then to create goals and objectives that met the standards set by the school system. CC may allow for this--and it may not. |
| Cspan today had committee meeting debating a standard teacher evaluation system. As Lamar Alexander said: setting up a national School board. This is the problem with the implementation of the common core. |
Bingo. |
they can create that with or without a common core. |
I understand from your post that you believe that local control is better and that a national school board would be an unwanted intrusion into local affairs by the federal government. Can I assume, therefore, that you are a staunch supporter of DC budget autonomy and an opponent of the federal government's interference into DC local affairs? For instance, you are all for DC voters deciding it own abortion, gun, and drug laws? |
Yes. |
Agreed. Because if I don't like what they've done, I won't choose to live there |
| The common core is developed and voluntarily adopted by states. |
It is my understanding that grants and money from the feds depends on its adoption, however. Please correct me if I am wrong. |
You are wrong. It is one way to demonstrate a robust curriculum, but it is not required. The anti-Core group has falsely claimed that it is a requirement for things such as Race to the Top. But it is not required. |
