Student tasered at Montgomery Blair High School

Anonymous
As a county resident, I also find the liability MCPS is opening up the MoCo taxpayer to pretty scary. What are the policies/rules for use of the taser? What are the after-application procedures -- is each use of the Taser being tracked and justified? Are there any post-tasering debriefings so that the security team can think about how the situation could have been shaped? Are there any public reporting requirements on use of the Taser? Can I see on the MCPS School Safety at a Glance report that School XXX used a Taser XX number of times? What kind of injuries can potentially result from misapplication or application to a medically "vulnerable" student?

Those are all good questions. Can we all agree, though, that students who are assaulting a staff member are on the "OK for tasering" list?

OMG you need to give the PTA buzz and let them know right away!

The problem should not have been allowed to escalate to the point that it did.

Did the school do what it should have done to talk the kid "down" before she reached the stage of anger?

Not every situation can be de-escalated. Even if everyone involved does the right thing.

Translation - it's the school's fault that this 16 yo freshman punched a staff member.

I weep for the future. (The present, too, since apparently you're a parnt.)

With people like you the future is something you should weep about. Perhaps you can tell me where in you self imagined universe there are reports that claim that the "16 yo freshman punched a staff member?"

Get you facts right before you let loose your nonsense.

After several failed orders, Greene called Blair's Resource Officer to the scene for assistance. Johnson said the student refused to comply with security and became increasingly disruptive, striking the officer. In response, the officer used a Taser on the student.

My son witnessed the entire incident and this is what he said happened.

Can't read English? The student never "punched a staff member." She punched the SRO summoned by security and then got tased. The reality is that the administration led by the incompetent principal let a simple issue get out of hand and then tried to minimize what happened.

The student allegedly hit the SRO. Is the overspending, self promoting MCPS incapable of diffusing a simple situation?

She will be in for a shock if she thinks this is the way a civil human being conducts them self.

Have you ever tried to restrain or calm a completely out of control, cursing, swinging, and disruptive student? Do you know how many times a week that students are put in a restraint hold by three or four adult men? Sometimes it takes more for a particularly violent student.

Can you name the school where the events you describe happened? When? How many times a week?

Since you offered, please provide the specifics.

Yes, please provide at least the name of the school where there are weekly restraints. Wonder if they are following MSDE's documentation procedures.

Just about every high school.
