How much do you make and spend?

For the person in grad school: not three years ago I was in your place, bringing in about $1900-$2k a month w a salary around 30k and trying to live in DC. I hung in there, saved as much as a I could, and life is weird.... I took a new job, got married, and now I'm up to about 80k w a HHI at around $200k, and I am 27. Our (v rough) breakdown for the two of us is:
rent: 2k
loans: $500
car (parking, insurance, payment): $500
spending money (clothes, booze, eating out, supermarket): 2200
housekeeper: $100
We save about 3k a month.

I think that's SO MUCH money. We make a ton more then most of our friends, who are mostly the do-gooder types. I love not worrying about every little penny. But I feel like it was just yesterday that I used to skip meals to save money so I just remind myself that this could go as fast as it came.

I am trying to max out my retirement...I currently have $40k in retirement. I have no sense if that's good/bad/standard. I need to get a good financial planner but to be honest I don't know where to start.

If you're in your early 20s, that's good. If you're in your 40s, that's bad. And if that's all that you have in your retirement account, then you're probably not ready for a financial planner yet. Better to start with some good solid books on personal finance. There was a thread on that recently.

$3k a month? Is that the going rate for a soul? Damn it. I knew I was paying too much for those lawyers!
