To be fair, they will think PP lives in Austria, and expect her to speak at least two if not three languages. |

This is a DC forum. You surely know where Vienna is so I shouldn't have had to elaborate to deflect your assertation that I surely live in the middle of nowhere.
Typical liberal defense: Attack one's intelligence and/or cosmopolitan factor. Which is ironic, considering the liberal voting base. |
why? do carry them on your back swimming across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans? ppplease. |
Look poster in a dig hole deep in the burbs of Vienna, VA. If you are tired of the cleaning lady that speaks Spanish (I am sure you have to clean your own house) or the landscaper then become one so you can come and clean my house. In the meantime, get your narrow views out of this thread. Immersion Programs are a must if we want to educate children for the future. as the min promoters of a global economy we can't continue raising people like the sample individual from previous posts. |
Typical conservative tactic: Ignore the facts and hold on tightly to ideology. |
I clean my own house and tend my own yard, thank you very much. But when you've got nothing else to sling at me, that's what you came up with, I guess. |
| How does this thread about immersion schools continue to go political??? |
Buena pregunta. OP, did we manage to offer some help? In any case, good luck! |
| To OP's question, I would say that not all Spanish immersion programs are equal. If you are exploring this option, I would recommend visiting/touring the specific locations where the program is offered. Our DC got into one through the lottery. We were all for it, until we visited the school and met the principal....and we're so not impressed. But I have friends with kids in Spanish immersion at different schools who are very happy. |
| I've met someone who works for a prominent technology company in the area, specializing in acquisitions of companies from other countries, and she really wishes that she knew Spanish so she wouldn't always need to use translators to conduct business with companies in Latin America. |

10:12: Great point, what you want is first of all a good education, there's no need to choose between a god education or Spanish immersion, you can have both.
11:14: Good point too. The combined GDP of Latin America and Spain accounts for around 10% of global GDP so, while not China (around 12%), speaking Spanish is and will remain a significant professional advantage. Add to that the growing Latino population, and the argument becomes pretty self-evident. (I know, they speak Portuguese in Brazil, but approaching business there in Spanish if often better than in English) |
