what if your doctor pulled out a reference book in front of you?

OP again - so interesting to hear all this. I often look things up in the course of my day - probably 5 or 6 times, at least - and I often relay this to patients, especially if the condition/symptoms seem to indicate a rare/unusual problem. I have always found patients to be very receptive to knowing that i am looking something up - but it was just this one encounter that had me second-guessing myself - in retrospect, I think it was primarily b/c the person wasn't english-speaking and I wondered if in their culture, they would expect a physician to know everything and would be worries if their doctor didn't know everything.

My primary care doctor pulled out a medication reference book when I asked him for a perscription that he wasn't familiar with. I appreciated that he took the time to research the medication.
