Does anyone get defensive when it is suggested SOME kids with language disorders MAY have ADHD too?

You can ask for a visual curriculum in an IEP. We were told by our developmental pediatrician that kids with ASD are visual learners and therefore requested a visual curriculum in DS's IEP. Our immersion language public school has been very accommodating and DS's reading of Chinese character's reflect it (best in his class if I can brag a little). I'm very thankful that the curriculum is geared toward his strengths.

What county are you in? What is your child coded as? What age is your child? Was your child performing below grade level when you went for the IEP? Our child is MERLD, but no suggestion of any autism spectrum. We are having a hard time getting the school to provide any services.

We're in FCPS and my DS was diagnosed with MERLD prior to K. We've not had any problems with getting speech therapy services as well as accomodations. We also work with a consultant who is very persistent, assertive and knowledgeable. That helps immensely.

12:33 here. We use Dr. Ruth Heitin http://www.educationalconsultingva.com/. I've posted in the forum about her before.

How much speech therapy do you get a week?

Our DS gets 20 hours a month which is about 1.5 hours a week which is about 0.5 hour three times a week - all in the special ed setting. We're working to get more but FCPS seems to have an unwritten rule that kids can't get more than this. If anyone gets more in FCPS, I'd be interested in hearing how.
