Do you make cakes from scratch?

So the cake i make from scratch has 3 sticks of butter and half a cup of crisco. Is it still better than a box cake?

I won't touch Ina Garten's recipes anymore, not after I tried her lemon bars recipe and the lemon topping had flour in it (unusual) and was gel like the inside of a lemon jelly bean. All her recipes are suspect now.

Weird. You insinuate that you used to like her, but then you tried one recipe that you didn't like, so now you are scared of her. Is that right?

No, the lemon bar recipe was the first and last of her recipes that I have tried. I say "anymore" because I did try one of her recipes.

One strike and you're out, Ina!

Seriously, though, maybe it's just that you personally didn't like that one recipe? I've made a few things of hers and have liked them. Then again, the amount I've liked the recipe has always been directly correlated to the amount of butter in it, so there's that (her chicken pot pie recipe = amah-zing).

It's just that I love a good lemon bar/square, and Ina's were spectacularly bad in their "jelliness" - ugh. Awful texture. And I did bake them right. Who puts flour in their lemon-square filling? It all went in the trash. Anyway, I am sure she has some good recipes, but whenever I hear of her, I can still taste those bad lemon bars.
