It makes sense to consolidate...though there are issues of population density, look at all those little catchment areas in SE...mergw kramer/winston/johnson
eliminate the 6-8 component and merge takoma/shepherd/whittier/brightwood and west, for 6-8th grade maybe use the newly renovated takoma building for that? expand lincoln/chec boundary north and east and yes, the bacchus/marshall people need a middle school I was a fan of k-8 for a while, but the implementation and budget issues have turned me off one highly regarded program had a lack of individualized instruction which seemed counterintuitive; if there are 50 7th graders, you'd assume individual attention, right? no, 50 kids meant fewer teachers, so only 2 math groups, no pullout for kids who needed reinforcement, few specialized teachers or parttime specials....pe once a week.... |
| 9:29 con't...dc only really needs about 10 6-8 campuses right now, not the hodgepodge of 15-16 and education campuses |
I totally agree. I challenge DC to close from a third to a half of its middle schools. And do this in the name of saving and improving middle schools. |
