Hiring a house cleaner - is it worth it?

Anonymous
The choice of whether or not hiring a house cleaning company is worth it, it depends on whether or not you could afford it among other things.

As others have stated previously, you would get the most out of your money by picking up the clutter and making room for the cleaning crew to have space to clean. They can only clean where they can get to. Most cleaning companies, do not pick up clutter, organize your house, walk your dog, water your plants, flip your mattresses, etc.

There are other factors to consider: a licensed, bonded and insured company or individual(s) doing the cleaning.
There are risks and responsibilities with the latter; from licensing, insurance, social security, etc.
There is a page that goes into more detail about the above mentioned: http://www.houservices.com/hsv/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=58.

Good luck with your decision!

Also, to those who only have once or twice a month cleaners come - a few PPs have said everything gets messed up again shortly after the cleaner comes. So is your house a mess for all but a few days a month? That would drive me crazy!

And finally - PP - $85 for all that??? Who is this person?

Cleaners do not prevent mess. Mess is about tidy, not clean. Two totally different things. How would a cleaner begin to prevent mess anyway?

I should have said "so your house is dirty for all but a few days of the week?" thanks for allowing me to clarify. I do a little cleaning here and there so it's always pretty clean. Seems like if you only get a housekeeper once or twice a month it would be pretty gross in the final days before she came. That's all I'm saying.

Of course it's dirty. I live with teenage boys

I agree. If you have them come less than once a week than it gets gross. Occassionally we have to skip a week for some reason and by day 10 or 11 it starts to seem dirty. I am talking about the dirt not clutter.
