DCPS cuts - Murch might lose school counselor position?

I have read it, but wondered again and again why on earth you all are carrying on this discussion here rather than a school listserve or even in person at your pta meetings or lsat meetings.

It gives a very bad impression of how things are run over there. But maybe your purpose IS to keep potential families away to ease overcrowding?

NP here. We considered JKLMMS (love the shorthand!), and chose a school after A LOT of due diligence: greatschools website, open houses, meetings with the principals, bringing our kids to their playgrounds and neighborhoods over the weekend to get a 'vibe' from the place, talking to current parents, and searching here on DCUM. I found DCUM to be very helpful in raising potential issues that I could then address with the principal and current parents. But DCUM was just a starting point in this way -- a place to just supplement what I was finding elsewhere. The fact that it is completely anonymous has both pros and cons. I think that most people on here understand that. I have a hard time believing that ANYONE would select a school for their children based just on what they read here - really makes no sense. I'm sure that when you make your decision, it will ultimately, hopefully, be rooted in something other than an anonymous board.

The counselor versus class size. Class size.
Honestly, the principal is easy going in my book. I heard that many of the parents are irrational. Murch, Murch, Murch.

Are you a current Murch parent? "Heard that" suggests otherwise. On what are you basing your description of the principal as "easy going in my book"?

Strawman argument. The HSA has the money to fund the other 1/2 of the position, as was stated earlier in the thread, and the LSAT recommended that the counselor be retained full time. So the problem isn't funds. There is space budgeted already for 1 1/2 combo of social worker and counselor so it isn't strictly a space issue either. Not really about either of those things. Unclear what it really IS about.

Murch, let it go. Poor principal. My child's teacher is not interested in the counselor's position as neither am I. I am interested in quality programming. Maybe find a position where the counselor can fit.
