Rhee feared Hardy principal was weeding out poor kids

Anonymous
If there was a microcosm of why DC education is so screwed Hardy seems to represent it all. Both under and post-Pope.

Rhee lost the narrative on Hardy, which added to the downfall of Fenty.
Through the sycophantic Richard Whitmire, she tries to respin Hardy, turning black into white and white into black.
She's not the one whose actions were racist-Pope was.
And so, skulking behind the curtain, we have her and Whitmire's (non-blood) libel.
This theme that the racism comes from Rhee's opponents is a subtheme of The Bee Eater.

I'd like to add that Rhee would never have presented this backdoor libel to her other admirer, Jo-Ann Armao. Ms. Armao and the Post would not be such a willing spaniel.by PhillipMarlowe on Mar 26, 2011

21:19, are you drunk or a DCPS grad? WTF are you trying to say?

I'm saying that Pope used admissions data as the primary factor in selecting OOB students, and the unintended effect was to make students with greater needs the burden of other principals and other teachers.

So what? If you are trying to get in a school that is out of your boundry, then you should have to play by the rules of that school. If you don't want to go through the application process or whatever, then just go to your own school. don't like your school? move somewhere else or do what it takes to improve your school. The entitled of folks in DC is shocking! At least in DC you have the option of looking at OOB schools-- in most places in the country you are just stuck with your in-boundry school.

Yeah, with respect to a decent education, there's a lot of entitlement in Wards 7 & 8.

I am a frequent critic of Ken on GGW, but your condescending rant seems a bit absurd to me. So Ken didn't use a statistical method sufficient to submit to a scholarly journal - so what? He never said he proved anything - in fact, here's a quote from the piece"

"Perhaps the unique demographics of Hardy were not the result of any specific intent to make poor students another principal's problem. Perhaps they were the unintended effect of using an application process to select students off of the Hardy waitlist with the best essays and in-person interviews."

I understand this is what you do for a living (zzzzzzz), but really, calm down,
Right, burying that in the piece isn't much comfort when the overall message that is being broadcast by the way the piece is framed (eg the headline) and its poorly developed charts is that Michelle Rhee really really cared about poor black children and Patrick Pope didn't. Do you have any idea how insulting that sounds? Sorry but I find that extremely offensive - both as a Hardy parent and a social scientist. Furthermore, how many people are going to actually read that line and grasp what it really means -- especially when they see these bar charts that look credible but actually aren't. It's not okay to base a claim on a flawed method and say it doesn't matter because it's not being sent to a research journal.

This!

This is interesting, if true. In 2006, the Mayor didn't have control of the schools and Fenty had a record of opposing a mayoral takeover of the schools. Had Gray, in 2010, said that if he were elected he would have Pope reinstated, everyone would have gone ballistic about his micromanaging the school system. I guess there are multiple standards.

Indeed. If it weren't for double standards, some people would have none at all.

Without a doubt the transition was bungled, bringing in a part-time principal with no middle school experience into a difficult situation. But the parents are not without blame. If you go around rubbing lamps don't be surprised if a genie pops out.

You're kidding, right? Given that there's no such thing as a genie, yes I'd be pretty damn surprised if one popped out!

What an assinine remark.

I saw them in "Aladdin" and "I Dream of Jeannie".

But if you assinine remarks, how about
You know what they say, once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger.

Like Julia Roberts said in "Pretty Woman" drunk, DCPS grad, WTU member-I'll be whatever you want me to be.

What am I trying to say:
Rhee's peeing on Pope thru the sycophant Whitmire is her way of getting back at him for the Hardy debacle.
But neither she nor her acolytes left in DCPS are going to say anything because they will be sued for discrimination.
(And what irony in that- DCPS forced to defend Mr. Pope. It would be enough to gag Miss Rhee.)
So, again, the background smears.
Her lot really is despicable.

Yes, drunk.
When I add 3 plus 3 and get 6, and you ask, "WTF are you trying to say?"
I'm the drunkard.

New poster here. The problem is that when someone asks you to explain what you're trying to say, you answer in metaphors, which only confuses the issue further. It's possible that you're actually brilliant, but in this case your communication style means that 90% of your audience has no idea what you're saying. If you want to communicate ideas, you need to alter your style.
