Just found this discussion (serendipitous moment, I am sure), and while finding it amusing that those of us living here are old, crabby and hate noise (read children) and going to die in the elevator, the draw for families is the retail area, the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, which is getting younger, the absolute lack of any major traffic almost 24/7, which makes it quiet and so pleasant. The Metro is close. As one poster noted, there are urban and suburban children and they all cope, with or without lawns. It's my experience that those of us in the suburbs are more protective of lawns than those of us in the city anyway.
So do check out the Watergate. It is a delightful community and neighborhood. I do agree that there are few children to play with, but that happens in the suburbs as well as our children are so overbooked that real play time is limited, if not non-existent. And as another commenter noted, do check the financials (Watergate East actually has the best financials precisely because they did not go overboard on cosmetic fixings as opposed to maintaining the infrastructure). And do keep in mind the post that notes buildings, like neighborhoods, go in cycles. Watergate is entering the cycle of young (under 40) residents.
